Article: Can You Wear Sunscreen Over Makeup?

Liquid error (sections/main-article line 54): invalid url input

You’ve applied your SPF, done your makeup, and headed out for the day. Then a few hours later, you realise it’s time to top up your sunscreen. The only problem? Your makeup is already done.

Reapplying SPF over makeup can feel like one of those things that’s easier said than done. Do you put sunscreen straight over the top? Will it move your makeup? Do you need to start your whole routine again?

The good news is, you don’t have to start from scratch.

When it comes to SPF, getting enough product onto your skin and applying it evenly is more important than keeping your makeup perfectly untouched. There are a couple of ways you can approach it, depending on what works best for you.

First things first: SPF reapplication matters.

We know applying your SPF in the morning is important, but your SPF routine shouldn’t stop there.

If you’re spending extended time outdoors, sweating, swimming, or otherwise removing sunscreen, it’s important to top-up. And that doesn’t change just because you’re wearing makeup.

So, how do you reapply SPF without completely starting your makeup routine again?

Here are two ways to do it.

With your regular Airyday SPF Dreamscreen, you can gently press the product into your skin using a clean makeup sponge or tool.

The key is to apply 1/4 tsp of sunscreen generously and evenly to your face, rather than worrying too much about keeping every part of your makeup perfectly untouched.

Yes, your makeup may move a little. That’s okay. You can always touch up afterwards.

When it comes to SPF, we’ll always prioritise getting enough product onto your skin over keeping your makeup exactly as it was.

If you’re looking for a more convenient way to top up while you’re already wearing makeup, this is exactly why we created On Repeat SPF50 Top-Up Mist.

On Repeat is a super-fine, refreshing and hydrating SPF50 mist designed to make SPF top-ups a little easier throughout the day.

It’s a secondary SPF top-up, not a replacement for your primary SPF application. Start your day with your favourite Airyday SPF, applied generously and evenly before makeup.

Then, when it’s time to top up, reach for On Repeat.

Rather than spraying directly onto your face, spray On Repeat liberally onto your hands, then gently press it into your face, making sure you distribute the product evenly.

Your makeup may move a little, but that’s okay. You can always give it a quick touch-up afterwards.

The important thing is getting your sunscreen onto your skin evenly and generously.

Which way is right for you?

There’s no need to remove your makeup or start your routine again just because it’s time to top-up your SPF.

If you love your regular Dreamscreen, you can use a makeup sponge or tool to gently press it into your skin.

If you’re after something quick and easy to keep with you throughout the day, On Repeat gives you another option for your SPF top-up.

The most important thing is finding a method that you’ll actually use.

Your SPF, all day

Topping up SPF over makeup doesn’t have to mean starting your routine again. You can use your regular Dreamscreen with a makeup tool, or reach for On Repeat when you want an easier way to top up throughout the day.

Both give you options - but if you’re looking for a top-up made to fit seamlessly into your day, On Repeat is here for exactly that.

Because SPF isn’t just a morning step. It’s something you can keep coming back to, makeup and all.
