Blue, Red and Near-Infrared: What's The Difference?

If you've ever looked at an LED mask and wondered why there are suddenly so many different colours of light involved, you're not alone.

Blue. Red. Near-infrared. Purple when two are combined. It can all sound a little technical, but understanding the difference is actually quite simple. Each wavelength interacts with the skin differently, making them suited to different skin concerns.

Our Bright On LED Mask and Bright On LED Face & Neck Mask offer dual-light technology, so you can target multiple skin concerns at the same time.

Blue Light

With a wavelength of 415nm, blue light is commonly used in LED light therapy for breakout-prone skin.

It targets the upper layers of the skin where oil is produced, making it a popular choice when your complexion is feeling a little congested or unsettled.

Think of blue light as the one you reach for when your skin is having one of those weeks.

With Bright On, blue light can also be combined with red light, creating a soothing purple glow while supporting a clearer-looking complexion.

Red Light

At 633nm, red light reaches into the skin to support overall skin health.

Red light, one of the most well-known wavelengths in LED skincare. Helping the appearance of firmness, texture and fine lines. It's the wavelength that fits beautifully into a more rejuvenating, skin-maintenance focused ritual.

If your skincare goals are centred around smoother, firmer, healthier-looking skin, red is a natural place to start.

Near-Infrared

Used to support skin recovery and overall skin health.

And then there's near-infrared. This works quietly behind the scenes.

At 833nm, near-infrared light is invisible to the human eye and reaches deeper into the skin than visible light. In LED light therapy, it's used to support skin recovery and overall skin health.

It's particularly beautiful when paired with red light, creating a treatment focused on skin rejuvenation and a firmer, more radiant-looking complexion.

The beauty of Bright On is that you don't have to choose just one.

The Bright On LED Mask and Bright On LED Face & Neck Mask allow you to combine two wavelengths in a single 10-minute treatment, so you can tailor your ritual around what your skin needs.

For rejuvenation and visible signs of ageing: Try Red + Near-Infrared to support firmness, skin health and the appearance of fine lines.

For breakout-prone or problematic skin: Try Blue + Red for a combination focused on clearer-looking, calmer skin.

For tone and texture: Try Blue + Near-Infrared to support clarity, texture and overall radiance.
