What is it Hyaluronic Acid (HA)?
You’ve most likely heard about it, as it’s a (super) hero ingredient used far and wide across beauty and skin care world. If you’re searching for the ultimate anti-ageing ingredient (apart from sunscreen!) which gives results, and isn’t a fad - Hyaluronic Acid is where it’s at.
HA is a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan found throughout the body’s connective tissue. It is the main component of what give skin its structure and is responsible for that plump, hydrated look. Its main action is to keep skin moist and lubricated, plus it plays an key role in the wound healing process.
It's claim to faim is that retains moisture (a humectant) and can hold over 1,000 times its weight in water, but truth be told it's unlikely it will ever meet this performance in any skin care product as there are so many variables which can affect it, including your own skin.
Why do we use it?
As we get older, the production of key substances in our skin like Hyaluronic Acid (along with collagen and elastin) decline and lack of moisture, is one of the main culprits of ageing skin as the skin becomes more susceptible to sagging and wrinkles.
Adding HA into your skin regime or skin care products , helps to provide the needed moisture our skin desires whilst also helping to reducing wrinkles, replenish moisture cells and fact: speed up wound healing.
